Berry Grower Inspires More Families to Live a Healthier Lifestyle
September 22, 2016 – (Oxnard, California) – On Sunday, September 17, 2017 over 500 people gathered at Oxnard College Park for a 5K walk/run followed by a Health and Wellness Fair.
Hosted by Reiter Affiliated Companies’ (RAC) Health Initiative, Sembrando Salud, this event motivates employees and their families to go outdoors and exercise in an enjoyable and safe environment, with an opportunity to connect with community organizations who offer key resources.
“For the past eight years, Sembrando Salud has educated farmworkers about the illnesses that disproportionately affect their communities and the small changes that can positively impact their health,” said Priscila Cisneros, Program Manager for Sembrando Salud.
Hundreds of families gathered early Sunday morning to sign-in, enjoy their morning snack and warm up for the 5K. First place runner for the men’s category was Sergio Ignacio with a time of 19:32 and first place runner for the women’s category was Nidia Salazar with a time of 25:41.
Community leaders and organizations such as Assembly member Jacqui Irwin, Assistant City Manager Jesus Nava, Ventura County Public Health and the Ventanilla de Salud, among many more were also in attendance.
Cisneros shared, this event is an opportunity to foster healthy ranch communities as well as create awareness about the many health and wellness resources in the community.
