Mexico

RAC originally expanded its operations into Mexico during the summer of 1991 under the name of Berrymex. The initial trial was very small and focused on growing both strawberries and raspberries. In 1994 our grower program began in Mexico and this partnership program dramatically affected Berrymex’s performance and production. Berrymex employees and growers continue to expand production in almost every section of the berry patch, including organic berries.

In the spring of 2006, RAC initiated its first overseas planting with 15 acres of raspberries and 15 acres of strawberries under the name of Maravilha Farms in the small town of Zambujeira Do Mar, Portugal. Today, Maravilha Farms continues a steady and scaled growth, with acreage now planted in Tavira, Portugal. Some of these acres are planted in above-ground containers commonly referred to as substrate, utilizing innovative growing practices. Maravilha is still in the early growing stages but plans are underway to plant blueberries and blackberries in the coming year. Atlas Berry Farms was established in 2011 growing strawberries in the farming regions of Agadir, Morocco. Within three years, operations expanded into Larache, with Atlas enhancing their growing portfolio to include blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.  Their operations continue to provide fresh berries as export into the European marketplace.
